Product details

We recommend the “standard” (#6 cm) mesh size when you want to use the Fluffy Feeder more as enrichment rather than to slow down feeding. The hay pillow is filled from a side seam and closed with three large buttons.

"I had been looking for a hay feeder to use as enrichment for my gelding, Rascal, when I found Heica’s Fluffy Feeder on Instagram. It’s perfect to use in his stall when the weather keeps him inside, but he also loves to have it in his pasture. The size is perfect, it’s not too large. It has held up well to Rascal’s vigorous pawing and shaking. Rascal loves the Fluffy Feeder, he almost always chooses to eat from it before eating from his loose hay or netted hay. Everyone at the barn has noticed how much he prefers it! I love that it’s providing him enrichment and allowing him to forage.” -KaeDee

We’ve designed the Fluffy Feeder to be durable and safe for horses. The net is smooth and soft for horses teeth and gums. Fluffy Feeders are not to be tied to anything (stall, floor, fences) to ensure safety when using the feeder. The risk of a horse getting caught or stuck is much lower compared to hanging hay nets.

To choose the correct net hole size, please refer to the table at the bottom of this page. If your goal is simply to enrich the horse’s environment rather than slow down eating, we recommend the standard net hole size.

Easy to clean – just rinse with water and let it dry. Can be machine washed in 40 degrees.

Fluffy Feeders allow the horse to eat in a natural posture from the ground level - just like grazing!

"My horses absolutely LOVED it. I was also surprised with the quality and how user friendly it is." -Paardendroom

"The hay pillow has been used by a standard bred horse. It’s placed in the stall with the evening hay to help extend feeding time. This horse previously had a regular hay net, but it ate so unevenly from it that we had to get veterinary treatment when its neck got badly strained. With the pillow, there haven’t been any similar issues." -Janette

Many horses prefer eating from the Fluffy Feeder rather than from a loose hay pile, or they alternate between the two, in which case the hay pillow serves as enrichment. The pleasant materials and thoughtful design directly influence the horse’s eating experience, making feeding more than just satisfying hunger, it also supports the horse’s species-specific needs. Horses do not eat only because they are hungry, they also have a need to search for food, chew more, explore, and use their senses.

Fluffy Feeder works well for overweight horses that need to lose weight. It can also support recovery from gastric ulcers or laminitis.

The material used in the hay pillows is water- and dirt-repellent, which helps keep the hay clean even if the feeder is rolled around in bedding or sand. The Fluffy Feeder net is made from seatbelt webbing and is soft on the horse’s teeth and gums. The net is highly durable and withstands both wear and varying weather conditions. The mesh size is not comparable to other slow-feeding nets on the market, it is typically more challenging for horses than standard hay nets. The 6 cm mesh size is well suited for dried or pre-dried hay, especially when the hay is short or stem is very thick.

The color of the net may vary depending on available materials.

The Fluffy Feeder is designed from the horse’s perspective. It has been tested with dozens of different horses and developed based on feedback. It is suitable for use both indoors in a stable and outdoors. It is also safer to use with shod horses, as the risk of getting caught is significantly lower compared to hanging, attached hay nets.

Tips:

  • You can endlessly vary everyday life with the hay pillow by mixing fresh grass, different types of hay, straw, etc. into the hay.
  • Easy to take along when travelling, lowering stress levels in a new environment.
  • It is worth trying different types of hay to see which works best for the individual horse (different hays behave differently in the hay pillow).
  • Try using it for recovery after travel or stressful situations. When the horse can use its senses and be active at its own pace, it helps speed up recovery from stress.
  • Can be used in training when introducing a new environment or as a break-time activity.
  • Well suited for use in stall rest.

Cleaning: Usually rinsing with a hose is enough. For more thorough cleaning, we recommend a fragrance-free mild detergent (such as dish soap) and a soft brush, or if needed, machine washing at 40°C.

We recommend providing loose hay alongside the Fluffy Feeder, allowing the horse the flexibility to choose where to eat.

Please note, the product can be damaged by the equine and it should be checked before each use.

The table below helps you choose the right mesh size for your horse and pony. Please note that this is a general recommendation, and the ideal mesh size may vary depending on your horse's individual needs.

Customer feedback:

"The hay pillow is just what I wanted,  it can even withstand a full destroyer test!" -Jenna

"We arrived at a completely unfamiliar stable for the photoshoot, and the pony was quite nervous. I put a hay pillow in the stall, and it calmed down immediately, feeling right at home. I don't know if the photoshoot would have gone worse without the hay pillow. It clearly helped my pony relax from the very beginning!"

"I really like those pillows; it’s so easy to just toss them into the paddock."

”We saw the Heica feeders first time in horse fair and they seemed to be really interesting. We decided to try them for the whole stable (horses and ponies). We give part of the night hays from the feeders to extend the eating time. Some of the horses just love them and tehy start eating first from the feeders even though there is loose hay available. The service is good adn the horses and ponies are happy.”
